Postimpressionism
Postimpression was a period of art that arose because of the popularity of Impressionism. It started and really did stay and grow in France. The concern surrounding this movement was the Impressionistic focus around light and colour. Vincent Van Gogh and George Seurat were some of the well-known artists of this time. The first piece is the world-renowned "Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh. Painted by him in 1889, it was a representation of his fascination with the stars. This next work also famous. "The Scream" by George Seurat was one of the poster children of this era. Postimpressionists such as Seurat believed in not only using color to lighten the enviroment, but also the same types on the people in the paintings themselves. This piece is one of many self-portraits that Van Gogh painted of himself throughout his life. Though some have been lost throughout the ages, these portraits are often used to almost tell a story of Van Gogh as person in life. I suppose I should just get all the famous works out of the way before I dig for other stuff. This is "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" by George Seurat. This piece is "The Chateau at Medann" by Paul Cezanne. Cezanne tended to focus solely on enviroments and while many other artists painted using many different colors, Cezanne tended to make a set of analogous colors work for his paintings. This piece is "Tahitian Landscape" by Paul Ganguin. It uses bright pinks and yellows as seen in many works of Spanish origin.

This is "Studying the Violin" by Berthe Morisot.
